The Exeter Chiefs have beaten Lyon in a dramatic turnaround in the first match of the Heineken Champions Cup since December.

Lyon started off strong with two tries in the first nine minutes.

The Chiefs' handling and team chemistry was poor to begin with, but as the game progressed they picked up the pace.

A strong forwards pick-and-go drive, lead by Luke Cowan-Dickie, ended with a try by Johnny Hill at 27 minutes in.

Further Chiefs tries from backs Tom O'Flaherty and Ollie Devoto cemented their lead by half-time.

Another huge drive from the Chiefs forwards saw Dave Ewers score at 51 minutes.

Scrappy play by Lyon in the scrum meant a yellow for prop Chiocci, then a penalty try for the Chiefs just five minutes later.

With just three minutes left on the clock, a secure lead and an advantage, Chiefs made a bold grubber kick from the breakdown that Ollie Woodburn was able to touch down over the line for another try.

Lyon tried to get some points back at the end, but poor handling let them down until Cretin only just scored a try in the corner in the last minute of the match.

Sam Simmonds played a fantastic game, seeming to be in almost two places at once on many occasions.

The Chiefs are set to play Leinster on Fri 9 April in the quarter finals.
