Weekend review: The Rest is History podcast

I'm not a huge fan of podcasts, and only occasionally listen to them when I have to do something tedious (like visiting the launderette).
But the discovery of a new podcast this week, 'The Rest is History', has rekindled my interest in the format - and I now find myself itching to listen to all 54 of the show's episodes.
Launched in November last year by historians Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook, The Rest is History offers a funny, accessible, and downright fascinating look at world history.
For example, I just learnt while walking my dog that the Aztecs migrated down from where the United States is today, made hot chocolate, and wrote poetry lamenting the horrors of war (not to mention all the human sacrifice).
Their subjects range from Tutankhamun to the 1990s, with a fantastic blend of historical fact and exploration of culture - but it all feels distinctly modern and fresh. What other podcast could have episode titles like 'Is Trump Caesar or Nixon?', 'We're all so 17th century', or 'Top Ten Eunuchs'?
The best thing about this podcast is that you don't need to be a history buff. It's an easy listen, and the pair can be very funny.
Why not have a look and see if there's something you might enjoy?
You can listen to the podcast online on Acast, or you can find it on Apple Podcasts.
