'One of the greatest love stories of all time' will soon be on show at Exmouth Pavilion.

Award- winning youth theatre company Centre Stage will be staging a production of West Side Story from March 31 to April 4.

Centre Stage first bought productions to the Pavilion back in 1971, known then as the 14-20 Music and Drama Society, with High Hopes (an eclectic choice of musical theatre songs) and since then has performed the classics from Gilbert and Sullivan, Rogers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe to the modern music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Schwarz and Howard Goodall.

A spokesperson for Centre Stage said: "West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and one of the greatest love stories of all time.

"The story remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The musical score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim is widely regarded as one of the best -ever written.

"Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the 'American' Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks.

"Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time."

The company is also looking forward to its 50th Anniversary next year.

The show opens at Exmouth Pavilion on March 31 and runs until Saturday, April 4, and tickets are available at the Pavilion, in person or by phone 01395222477 or buy them online here.
