Armed Forces Day was celebrated at Exmouth Museum on Saturday (25 June) together with Royal Marines from the Commando Training Centre in Lympstone.

Town Crier Roger Bourgein, Mayor Steve Gazzard and Royal Marine veteran and county councillor Jeff Trail all attended.

The museum hosted exhibits showcasing the town's association with the Armed Forces, and some interactive games on land next to the museum were held.

A detachment of Royal Marines also showed off their full 'yomping' kit they carry into battle.

A museum spokesperson said: "Visitors were invited to see if they could lift a fully packed backpack which weighed in at around 50 pounds (23kg) and when the ammunition pack and rifle are added it comes to around 80 pounds (36kg)!

"The marines answered many questions from visitors and received much gratitude for the work they put in keeping us safe and secure. The Royal Marines Charity collectors comprising veterans and charity staff were out in force and some were on Exeter Road showing visitors to the museum.

"Local militaria collector and author Simon Fogg brought along his impressive display of deactivated armaments which proved very popular with visitors.

"The museum would like to thank all those who exhibited and to the towns people who came out in force to celebrate such an important day and help raise money for Royal Marines Charity and Museum funds."

Exmouth Museum can be found on Sheppard's Row in the town and here on Google Maps.
