Exmouth Town Council is currently inviting people to apply to become a councillor by co-option.

Co-option means the council itself will choose the new councillor, as opposed to an election in which members of the public vote.

It comes after too few candidates stood for the Exmouth Town ward in the local elections earlier this month.

An Exmouth Town Council spokesperson said: "We invite people from all backgrounds and experiences to put themselves forward.

"You don't need any experience or special qualifications but you need to be British or a citizen of the Commonwealth, at least 18 years old, and registered to vote in the area or have lived, worked, or owned property there for at least 12 months before an election.

"Full town council meetings are held monthly... the planning committee meets every two weeks and the other committees and working parties meet with varying frequency.

"Training for councillors is provided."

To apply, contact Town Clerk Lisa Bowman for an application form by email [email protected] or download one here.

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 6 June at 5pm.
