Volunteers arrived to work this week at the Sensory Garden to find that trees planted for loved ones had been vandalised.

The garden based in the pavilion on the seafront was created by Exmouth Art Group and Exmouth in Bloom.

Volunteers arrived to work on the garden (Tuesday 12th) to find two of the trees, donated and planted a year ago in memory of someone's loved relatives, were snapped off.

One a 10 foot high Himalayan White Birch, chosen for the rustling sound of its leaves and the other an apple tree about to flower, and for people to pick and taste the resulting fruit. To replace these two trees, like for like could be up to £500.

"The sadness and outrage that someone has done this deliberate act to an area dedicated to people who may not have a garden of their own, but also to provide a place for mental well-being, to sit quietly and relax, and to stimulate those less fortunate, to experience colour, sound, smell and even to taste some of the garden produce," a spokesperson for Exmouth in Bloom added.

The police have been informed of this vandalism and are looking at CCTV footage for evidence of the perpetrators.
