Further rail strikes are set to hit Exmouth and the whole Great Western Railway network this weekend and next week.

The strike days are Saturday 13, Thursday 18, and Saturday 20 August.

GWR has advised passengers to 'only travel if absolutely necessary' and has said trains that can operate are expected to be 'extremely busy'. There will be no replacement bus services.

This month's industrial action marks the third month of disruption, with strikes in June and July having already taken place this year.

What days will be affected by the strikes?

Friday 12 August

Normal timetable. Minor changes to late-night services.

Saturday 13 August

No trains in Devon/Exmouth. No other GWR services will run.

An 'extremely limited service' on the following routes:

  • Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington
  • Reading to Oxford
  • Reading to Basingstoke

Sunday 14 August

Trains will continue to be severely disrupted. Only travel 'if absolutely necessary', but 'local stopping services will operate'.

Reduced service frequency on other long-distance routes:

  • London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads
  • London Paddington to Swansea
  • London Paddington to Plymouth/Penzance (inc via the Kennet Valley)
  • London Paddington to Oxford

Monday 15 August

Tuesday 16 August

Normal timetable.

Wednesday 17 August

Normal timetable. Minor changes to late-night services.

Thursday 18 August

Limited service otherwise, only travel 'if absolutely necessary'.

Friday 19 August

Trains will continue to be disrupted. Only travel 'if absolutely necessary'.

Reduced level of service throughout the day.

Saturday 20 August

No trains on all Devon branch lines (including Exmouth, Paignton).

Can I get a refund?

GWR is allowing people with tickets for travel on strike days to be able to travel on the day before and up to and including Tuesday 23 August.

If you have already bought a ticket, you can get a full refund or amend your journey. If you travel and are delayed by 15 minutes or more, you might be able to claim 'delay repay' compensation.
