Hangtime Cafe is seeking planning permission for a new deck it had already started building next to its hut at Sideshore on Exmouth seafront.

The applicants were reportedly "unaware" it needed permission from the district council and have stopped any further construction.

The new deck would provide more seating for a sit-down waiter service as the "ever-growing business… simply [does] not have enough seats to hold anywhere near the new number of customers".

Since opening in 2020, Hangtime Cafe has expanded from having three staff members to 14. Some mornings, it can serve more than 120 drinks per hour and reach 800 hot drinks per day, according to the planning documents.

The finished deck would have timber handrails and a material balustrade made of recycled sails on the south and east sides, a planter-boundary to the north and wooden tables and chairs.

The application is currently awaiting a decision from the district council.
