BT has started a consultation process with the local community and council to ask what should be done with old phone boxes.

The company has put up notices on four of its Exmouth units, which are near the Lifeboat Station, on Victoria Road, near All Saints' Church, and on the Esplanade.

Payphone usage has dropped more than 90% in the last ten years, with the phone box pictured only being used 13 times a month.

They can either be removed or turned into something useful, such as a defibrillator site or mini library.

A red phone box in Topsham is already being used as a community library, with interior shelves for books.

The company has also contacted East Devon District Council asking them either to agree to remove the kiosks, object, or put in an offer to adopt the box.
