An Exmouth woman has now begun a 30-day swimming challenge to raise money for dementia charity Alzheimer's Society.

Emma de Saram aims to swim as far as 10 miles in total - exactly 804.5 lengths - over the 30 days.

She decided to take on the challenge as her parents are both in the early stages of Alzheimer's, and wanted to give back to the charity after receiving support from its volunteers.

Emma said: "My mother Gilly and stepfather Ted have been supported and assisted by volunteers locally to them over the last year.

"It would have been difficult to navigate the various health appointments and care packages without this support.

"Alzheimer's Society have made it clear that they are always available if I need help relating to this horrible disease too, which is reassuring.

"So that's why I'm taking on Swim for Dementia and raising vital funds.

"Please donate as much or as little as you can to support me and ensure Alzheimer's Society can be there for the people who need them most."

She started the challenge on Thursday 15 July, and has already raised £220 at the time of writing.
