Exmouth Town Council has chosen a new mayor for the town.

Olly Davey was elected mayor, and Joe Whibley deputy mayor, at a meeting on Monday (22 May).

Both councillors represent the Exmouth Town ward at Exmouth Town Council and East Devon District Council. Davey belongs to the Green Party, and Whibley is an independent.

Mayor of Exmouth Cllr Olly Davey said: "I've got to give tribute to the four years and the tireless service that you [the previous Mayor of Exmouth Steve Gazzard] have given to the town, and thank you very much for everything you've done for it in representing the town, and I will try to do my level best to follow that.

"You'll be a hard act to follow, but I'll do my best."

Cllr Gazzard served as mayor since 2019. He represents Exmouth Withycombe Raleigh for the Liberal Democrats at Exmouth Town Council and East Devon District Council.

Mayoral elections happen each year at the town council's annual meeting.
