More than 15,000 children across Devon will be receiving food vouchers this Christmas as part of a £1million programme by the county council to combat holiday hunger.

The children are currently receiving free school meals and their families will be able to buy food with the vouchers over the festive holiday, while eligible children in pre-school and young people in sixth form colleges will also receive the vouchers.

Devon residents – including children – have been reminder that 'Christmas could be cancelled' if they are told to self-isolate in the run-up to the holiday season.

While up to three households will be allowed to mix for five days over the Christmas holidays – with no mixing and matching of the households over different days allowed – the rules around self-isolation will not change.

The reverse advent calendar appeal, being run by The Open Door Centre in Exmouth, asks residents to donate an item a day to help build festive hampers for those in the community that won't be enjoying treats or gifts without your help.
